Despite having cut down to three issues of Vision a year, this one is still a bit behind. The end of May was crazy with things that had to be done right now. So here it is June 1st and I'm working at getting the last of Issue #79 put together.

One of the things I'm in the midst of doing (the one thing I don't need to do right now) is preparing for my first print publication as an Indie Author. That work keeps drawing my attention when I most need to be focused on something else -- but writing-related work does that to me all the time. I get up each day with a plan to go do all kinds of non-writing things, but from the moment I pull up my current WIP (Work in Progress), I pretty much lose track of the real world. I am extremely lucky in that respect, except when there are other things that really need done. (Like remembering the clothes in the washing machine that I put in this morning. Glad I at least remembered them on the same day this time.)

It's all right to lose yourself in your writing. Doing so is one of the greatest joys a writer can experience. Being so caught up in the story you are telling that the real world fades is a gift not every writer enjoys, so if you do, grab hold of it. Do your writing at times when you are least likely to be interrupted and after you've done all the basic things that must be done for other people. Insist on that time for yourself; after all, others take time to watch sports, play games and do what they want. You have the right to choose how you spend a little of your own free time.

Writing is for you. You deserve to have an hour or two to enjoy something that isn't going to cost anyone else anything but your attention for a little while. But remember that there are other things that have to be done as well. So now I'm off to take care of those clothes and finish putting this issue together.

Go write and have fun.
